THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
The East Lake Terrace (ELT) neighborhood is located just south of Glenwood Avenue in Unincorporated Dekalb County in zip code 30032. The borders of the neighborhood are Glenwood Avenue (north side), McAfee Road (south side), Parker Avenue is the western border and Glenvalley Drive, just over Candler Road, is the easternmost area of the neighborhood. Candler Road runs through the neighborhood on the eastern end, supporting many small businesses and several chain fast food restaurants and other convenience shopping stores.
There are approximately 1200 homes in ELT, with very few multi-family homes within the borders. Most of the homes in ELT were built between 1940 and 1955. ELT is one of the last of the 1950’s neighborhoods within the Perimeter that is still intact and affordable. There are huge hardwoods throughout the neighborhood that shade the homes. A newly renovated park, Barker Bryant Memorial Park at Lake Buena Vista, rests on the south side of the neighborhood along McAfee Road.
Because ELT is located in Unincorporated Dekalb County, the property taxes are lower than those homes located within the Atlanta city limits. This substantial tax savings, as well as the proximity to East Atlanta, I-20, downtown Decatur, Oakhurst and the East Lake Golf Club make ELT a very desirable place to live. The neighborhood has a very diverse population which makes ELT a very interesting place to live.
The yellow highlighting in the map below describes the East Lake Terrace Area.
